Detailed Description
The Playa del Puerto Swimming Lane is a dedicated facility for open water swimming located in Mazarrón’s main bay. Opened in 2019 and promoted by the Mazarrón Town Council, it has become one of the municipality’s leading urban spaces for sea-based training and sporting activities.
Playa del Puerto is officially designated as a sports beach and is situated next to Rihuete Sports Beach, making this section of the bay one of the most important hubs for marine sports and recreational activities in Mazarrón.
The sheltered configuration of the bay and the presence of a submerged breakwater create generally calm sea conditions, making the area ideal for technical training sessions and controlled practice.
The facility is marked by three floating lane lines, clearly defining outbound and return swimming lanes and allowing athletes to train comfortably and safely. Its compact format is particularly suitable for technical drills, short intervals and introductory open water swimming sessions.
The swimming lane also has strong links to some of the municipality’s most important sporting events. Playa del Puerto serves as a key venue for both the Mazarrón Lighthouse Swim Crossing and the swimming segment of the Fuente Álamo Triathlon, two long-established events on the regional sporting calendar.
The proximity of the seafront promenade and the tourist facilities of Puerto de Mazarrón makes it easy to complement sporting activities with dining, leisure and other sea-related experiences.

Recommendations / Safety
Navigation is extremely simple thanks to the three floating lane lines that clearly define the swimming lanes and provide continuous guidance throughout the activity.
The swimming lane offers a very high level of safety, as it is protected from waves and fully separated from boat traffic. It is particularly suitable for beginners, technical training, structured sessions and specific technique or interval work.
Its excellent accessibility and constant proximity to the shore allow for comfortable and controlled practice, even for swimmers with limited open water experience.
The early morning hours generally provide the best conditions for training.
