Description

This route forms part of the guide “Blue Trails – Ecotourism Routes by Kayak and Paddle Board”, where you will discover more itineraries for exploring the Costa Cálida from the sea.

This Blue Trail offers an introductory paddle boarding experience in a privileged setting on the Murcia coastline, ideal for those wishing to take their first steps on a paddle board in the calm and safe waters of the Mar Menor.

The activity takes place off La Mota Beach, covering an approximate distance of 1 km, where the sea blends seamlessly with the unique landscape of the San Pedro del Pinatar Salt Flats. Alongside us stand the historic salt mills that were once used to channel water from the Mar Menor into the network of salt ponds. The Quintín Mill and the Calcetera Mill add a distinctive and highly photogenic character to the experience.

Designed for people with no previous experience (from 6 years of age), the session begins on land with a brief introduction to the equipment and basic safety guidelines. Once on the water, participants progressively learn different positions on the board, as well as essential paddling techniques: moving forward, correcting direction, moving backwards, stopping and turning with control.

More than a route, this is a first encounter with the sea, balance and tranquillity, in a natural environment where gentle breezes, shallow waters and beautiful scenery invite visitors to relax and enjoy the experience at their own pace.

Complementary Activities in the Area

A highly recommended addition to this experience is a walk along the Encañizadas Trail, an ideal family-friendly route that provides an excellent opportunity to discover the Las Salinas de San Pedro del Pinatar Regional Park.

Another option is to take part in one of the local Fishing Tourism activities: enjoy a guided visit to the San Pedro del Pinatar Fish Market, watch the live fish auction and learn how glass eels are caught or when the best season is to enjoy gilthead seabream.

At the Salt Flats Ponds, visitors can enjoy a therapeutic mud bath using clay-rich mud renowned for its beneficial effects on a wide variety of conditions. Access is free of charge.

Another must-do activity is snorkelling in the Mar Menor. The underwater itineraries organised by the Hippocampus Association provide visitors with an excellent opportunity to experience the seabed and its biological richness firsthand, while learning about marine culture and the importance of protecting aquatic ecosystems. Be sure to consult the Guide to Marine Flora and Fauna Species of the Region of Murcia.

Don’t miss the chance to sample the area's distinctive gastronomic specialities, based on lagoon fish, cured fish products and traditional rice dishes prepared with local ingredients, such as the famous caldero. Another unforgettable experience is tasting the wines of Murcia, which reflect the diversity of soils and climates found within the region’s three Designations of Origin: Bullas, Jumilla and Yecla. In addition, the Region of Murcia is home to three Protected Geographical Indications: Vinos de la Tierra del Campo de Cartagena, Abanilla and Murcia.
