Description

This route forms part of the guide “Blue Trails – Ecotourism Routes by Kayak and Paddle Board”, where you will discover more itineraries for exploring the Costa Cálida from the sea.

This Blue Trail by kayak is an invitation to discover the soul of the Mazarrón coastline from the sea, where every paddle stroke brings us closer to places filled with history, tranquillity and untamed beauty. It is a circular route that combines accessible sections with landscapes that awaken the senses.

We begin our journey at Puerto Beach, gliding gently across generally calm waters. Leaving the shoreline behind, we cross the harbour entrance, accompanied by the breakwater that guides us towards open water. Ahead of us stands the Mazarrón Harbour Lighthouse, serving as a constant landmark, watching over our progress and adding a distinctive maritime character to the route.

Gradually, we approach the charming Cala del Faro, also known as Cala del Moro Santo, a small natural refuge with calm, clear and sheltered waters. This almost hidden corner is the perfect place for a first stop, where we can enjoy snorkelling and explore the seabed.

We then continue along the coastline towards Punta de los Aviones and Punta Negra. These rocky headlands break the continuity of the shoreline with their rugged forms and dark colours, creating a wilder and more authentic landscape. The contrast between the rock formations and the deep blue sea makes this one of the most photogenic sections of the route.

Continuing to paddle, we round the Cabezo del Puerto de Mazarrón, gradually watching the landscape open up around us. It is here that Mazarrón Island appears before us, imposing and unmistakable, marking the next objective of the journey.

We head towards the island and begin circumnavigating it along its northern side. From the kayak, the perspective is unique: rocky cliffs, small coves and formations sculpted over time by the sea and the elements. In this area, we can also glimpse traces of the former Island Salt Pans, remnants of human activity that blend discreetly into the natural landscape.

As we paddle around the island, we discover new places where we can stop for snorkelling. The waters surrounding the island are usually exceptionally clear, with seabeds that invite exploration and encourage us to take our time and fully enjoy the surroundings.

After completing the circuit around the island, we begin the return journey by once again passing around the Cabezo del Puerto. The lighthouse comes back into view, this time as a symbol of our return, accompanying us through the final stage of the route.

Finally, we return to Puerto Beach, completing a journey that is much more than a sporting activity: it is a complete experience of connection with the sea, the landscape and the history of the Mazarrón coastline.
