Detailed Description
The Playa de la Mota swimming route offers a particularly peaceful and sensory experience within the Mar Menor, running alongside the Regional Park of Las Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro, one of the most emblematic natural areas on the Murcia coastline.
The route takes place entirely within the designated bathing area, following an open and lightly urbanized stretch of shoreline characterized by calm waters, wide views and a constant connection with the natural environment.
Unlike other urban beaches of the Mar Menor, the swimming experience here is shaped by the direct proximity of salt flats, dunes and sandy landscapes. Along the route, it is common to observe waterbirds associated with the natural park, especially flamingos and other migratory species that find refuge in this unique ecosystem.
The natural protection provided by the coastal lagoon creates much more stable and calmer conditions than those found in the open Mediterranean, allowing swimmers to enjoy the water even during periods of strong winds or rough sea conditions along the outer coast. This distinctive feature makes the Mar Menor one of the most important natural refuges for open water swimmers on the Iberian Peninsula.
The route provides a continuous feeling of tranquility and immersion in nature while maintaining simple and accessible logistics. The “Entre Molinos” coastal promenade and the traditional mud bath areas complete an experience closely linked to wellness and the characteristic landscape of the northern Mar Menor.
There is also the possibility of combining this route with the Playa Villananitos route to increase the total swimming distance. It is recommended to make the transition on foot and avoid swimming across the navigation channel.

Recommendations / Safety
Navigation is very straightforward thanks to the continuous reference provided by the buoys marking the bathing area and the straight layout of the beach, which makes orientation easy throughout the route.
