Description
This magnificent beach, located in a small residential area of holiday homes, lies within a bay surrounded by mountains. Its crystal-clear waters and rocky coastline make it ideal for water activities such as kayaking and snorkelling, two activities that complement each other perfectly.
It should not be confused with Cala de la Morena, which lies just next to it but is separated by a rocky headland and can be accessed through the El Portús campsite.
We will enter the water along the right-hand side of the beach, following an extensive rocky wall. Although the entrance area is sandy, particularly in the central part of the cove, the seabed along the sides is dotted with rocks and extensive Posidonia seagrass meadows.
A fold in the rocky wall creates a very shallow area where it is possible to stand and where the water remains calm. This area is usually full of juvenile seabream and salema porgies, making it particularly suitable for families with children.
As we continue, the wall becomes steeper and the depth gradually increases. The rocks are now much larger, probably the result of rockfalls from the cliff above, and are covered with colourful algae and marine vegetation. Large fish such as sea bass and gilthead seabream often patrol the area in search of prey.
Along the wall, in the intertidal zone that remains moist but is not always submerged, it is possible to observe the beadlet anemone, a striking reddish sea anemone with retractable tentacles that can fold into itself.
The route can be as long as we wish. Of course, if we arrive by kayak, the experience becomes even more rewarding, allowing us to enjoy the spectacular coastline before entering the water to explore this remarkable underwater landscape.
