Description

In Bolnuevo, along the Mazarrón coastline, we find a succession of charming beaches and coves. Our route takes us along Playa del Rincón, located below a picturesque swing perched on a viewpoint. From here, we descend a wooden staircase and head towards the left-hand end of the beach, where we can comfortably enter the water.

This is a perfect location for families with children, as it is possible to stand for most of the route, especially when staying close to the shore. The seabed is composed of brilliant white sand, although numerous small rocks can be found alongside the cliff. Among them live a variety of fish such as blennies and gobies, which, being poor swimmers, move in short hops along the seabed using their pectoral fins for support.

To our right stretches an extensive Posidonia seagrass meadow that, in some areas, forms a step-like drop into slightly deeper water. It is worth taking time to observe the Posidonia, as it supports an abundance of marine life, including the pipefish (Syngnathus), a particularly difficult species to spot because it blends perfectly with the leaves of the seagrass.

We can continue as far as an indentation in the coastline that resembles a small cave. Here, the rocks are smooth and rounded like pebbles, and the area is often filled with clouds of juvenile fish seeking shelter in these shallow waters.

Beyond this point, the route can continue, although the wall becomes steeper and the seabed drops into greater depths. For this reason, it is generally advisable to turn back and enjoy the return journey along this simple yet delightful snorkelling route.
