Description

This small urban cove in Cabo de Palos offers beautiful views of the rocky coastline, anchored sailboats and the imposing lighthouse that dominates the landscape.

We enter the water and head towards the islet directly in front of us, circling around it. Its walls rest on a seabed approximately three metres deep, although numerous rocks reduce the apparent depth. Among them, schools of damselfish, comber fish and small groupers can often be seen, on the lookout for octopuses.

After circling the islet, we continue south following the coastline. The seabed is predominantly covered by Posidonia seagrass, especially when moving away from the shore, where a drop-off leads to a sandy bottom. For this reason, it is best to remain within the transition zone between the rocks and the Posidonia meadows, where abundant marine life can be observed, including seabream, gilthead bream and bogue. These fish move in synchronised shoals, reacting swiftly to predators such as sea bass, dentex and tuna species, particularly during summer and autumn.

The small inlets along the coast provide shelter for juvenile fish of many species, in areas shallow enough to stand comfortably.

The route can continue as far as a set of steps located in a nearby cove, where we can turn around and return, this time staying even closer to the shore and accompanied by vast schools of saddled seabream, seabream and mojarras, creating a spectacular display of marine life and underwater scenery.

This route is suitable for children when followed close to the coastline, where it is possible to stand on the many rocky sections of the seabed throughout most of the excursion.
